Which Striker Should United Sign?

United are reportedly looking for a new striker to compete with Wayne Rooney next year, and with Falcao already gone and van Persie looking unlikely to stay, who should United go for?

Here is a list of six options United may think about…

6.) Gonzalo Higuain

The Napoli forward grabbed 27 goals last season, and could potentially be the 20 goal-a-season striker van Gaal wants at United. He has a £71.3 million buyout clause in his contract, but there would surely be room for negotiation there if he wanted to leave. He’s apparently after a move and could go for around £37 million, if the ‘papers are to be believed. I don’t think this one will happen, but the 27-year-old definitely has quality.

Potential fee = £37 million
Likelihood = 5/10

5.) Harry Kane

Last season’s wonder-kid scored 21 goals in the Premier League last season, a remarkable amount for a 21-year-old. United have been linked with him, and I can see why -  he’s young, he’s got potential and he’s already shown he can do it in the Premier League. HOWEVER, with a fee of above £40 million being thrown around, I can just imagine Daniel Levy licking his lips at the thought of United coming in for him. He’s only done it for one year as well, and I personally wouldn’t be overly happy if United went for him this summer at such a high price.

Potential fee = £40+ million
Likelihood = 4/10

4.) Carlos Bacca

28 goals and 10 assists last season for Sevilla make the 28-year-old an interesting target for United. He’s clearly got talent, and with a fee of £21 million being touted it would be a relatively inexpensive move. Arsenal are reported to be interested as well, which may make the signing a bit trickier. He’s not a particularly big name, but if Rooney is the number one choice up front next season then he could be useful backup.

Potential fee = £21 million
Likelihood = 6/10

3.) Jackson Martinez

The 28-year-old has become one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in recent times. He’s scored 67 goals in 89 appearances for Porto and could be signed for around £25 million.
Arsenal are again being heavily linked with him and the ‘papers seem to be saying it’s nearly a done deal for him to go to London. United could hijack the deal though, and I think he’d be a top signing for United.

Potential fee = £25 million
Likelihood = 6/10

2.) Karim Benzema

With Real Madrid’s Galacticos approach of signing big players and letting old ones go every year, Benzema could be the latest big name to leave the Bernabeu. We’ve been linked with the 27 year-old forward for years and I think this one could happen. He’s got 87 goals in 188 appearences for Madrid, but I’m certain that had he not been in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo, he’d have had a lot more.

Potential fee = £35 million
Likelihood = 7/10

1.) Alexandre Lacazette

With 29 goals in 35 appearances last season for Lyon, the 24-year-old could be a prime target for United. He’s already said he would leave Lyon for a Champions League club, and I could really see this one happening. We’ve been heavily linked with a move for him, and he’d be my pick this summer. If United could get this one done I’d be very happy.

Potential fee = £25+ million

Likelihood = 8/10
