United To Move For Milner?

In possibly the daftest transfer rumour of the window so far since suggestions Raheem Sterling would be signing form Liverpool, Manchester City’s James Milner has been linked with United. Is this a case of lazy journalism or is there actually a chance of this happening? Now it’s important to point out that this rumour has come from the Mirror. That’s right, the Mirror. So chances are it’s based on spurious guesswork, akin to having two wheels of fortune; one with player’s names and the other with teams. Their source is the Sunday People, who they claim have heard that Ed Woodward has made an enquiry. But on the Sunday People webpage, I can’t see any evidence of a story, and certainly nothing as concrete as a quote. As ridiculous as this all sounds, would it actually be so silly of United to sign Milner? I feel he’s an underrated player, purely because of his ability to play in several positions. The saying ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ comes to mind. But consi...

Top 5 De Gea Replacements

Every day it seems to be more and more likely that our Spanish ‘keeper David De Gea will be making the move to Madrid. None of us want this to happen, but we might need to come to terms with it sooner rather than later. Despite the comforting words of Louis van Gaal, I really don’t think De Gea will be with us for much longer. We might be able to get another season out of him at the most, but after that we will be saying goodbye to Dave. So who should we get in to replace him? Here are five options United could go for… 5.) Jasper Cillessen Dutch international Jasper Cillessen is probably best known for being substituted for Tim Krul before the penalty shootout against Costa Rica in the World Cup. First choice for now United manager Louis van Gaal during the competition, van Gaal clearly rates him and the Dutch ties may make this a likely transfer. The Ajax goalkeeper has a similar build to David De Gea and plays in a similar way. If United wanted an almost carbon-copy of...

Who Do United ACTUALLY Need to Buy?

Now that the season has ended, and United have achieved the target of getting back into the top four, Louis van Gaal has a new challenge for next season: winning the title. I personally don’t believe that we are really that far away from being able to at least compete for the title.  After such an appalling start to the season, I think United have done a good job to even finish fourth. Had we started well, we could have been really challenging Chelsea for the top spot. But that being said, I do think that United need a few tweaks to really hit the level required to be champions again next year. For starters, I think it’s glaringly obvious for all to see that we are desperate for a top quality centre back. Chris Smalling has had an excellent season, and in the last few weeks has gone some way to becoming a leader on the pitch. But his partner Phil Jones has not been quite as impressive. He seems nervous on the ball, unsure in his decision making, and generally just not the ...

Should United Keep Di Maria?

At the start of his United career, Angel Di Maria was being hailed as the saviour of the team. With a run of terrific performances early on in the season, he looked to be a player who was truly worthy of the famous number 7 shirt. But after three goals in five games at the start of his life in the Premier League, things went downhill. Injuries and reports of an attempted burglary at his home seemed to negatively impact his form for the team. But in my opinion, Di Maria is right up there with Wayne Rooney and David De Gea as one of our best players. He has the ability to change a match in a heartbeat, and has that star quality that the likes of Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia just don’t bring to the side. Opposition players don’t look at our team sheet and tremble with fear when they see that Young is playing, but I’m certain they do when Di Maria is. Even if he doesn’t have a brilliant game, he can still come up with a killer pass or attempt on goal that can change a match...
